Having Another GAS with...Paul Burke
Tuesday Mar 02, 2021
Tuesday Mar 02, 2021
Today, I'm having another GAS with Paul Burke, the outspoken writer who frequently risks his career by coming onto our podcast and saying whatevr happens to be on his mind. This time, it's a look back over his second job as a DJ in the 80s and 90s in Soho.
--
Paul began his career as a van driver at AMV before becoming a copywriter at Y&R, JWT and BMP DDB. In that time, he has won practically every award the industry has to offer including three D&AD pencils. He has also chaired a number of awards juries including D&AD, Creative Circle and the Aerials. He's won so many Aerial Awards that they gave him a special Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was also presented with a Radio Advertising Fellowship at The House of Lords. Uniquely among writers, Paul produces commercials too. Either his own scripts or other people's. Always makes them better.
Every year he facilitates the IPA Radio Producers Course.
He has about thirty years' experience at top agencies working with every sort of client.
So he can just get stuff done quickly and brilliantly.

Having a GAS with...Rania & Trevor Robinson, Partners at Quiet Storm

Friday Feb 26, 2021
Today, I'm having a GAS with Rania and Trevor Robinson, respectively the CEO and Founder / ECD of Quiet Storm.
--
At the age of 11, Trevor Robinson’s school careers advisor told him that he’d have more chance of being a bus driver than working in advertising. Despite the early obstacles he faced getting into the industry, he has managed to forge a hugely successful career for himself over the last three decades. In 1995 he founded Quiet Storm, one of the first agencies to write, direct and produce its own work – a model which it still uses today, and has seen it create award-winning work including You’ve Been Tango-ed and Haribo’s Kids Voices campaign.
Rania Robinson came to the UK from Egypt at the age of 3. Starting school at age 4 not speaking a word of English sparked a life-long passion for and fascination with forming connections and meaningful communication. Having spent most of her career in non-traditional agencies in both account leadership and strategic roles she has worked with some of the world’s best known brands including Three Mobile, Mercedes, Stella Artois, Coca Cola and Innocent with a particular focus on brand building and experience. Since joining Quiet Storm seven years ago, she has brought a 360° perspective and new energy to the agency, helping extend its service offer and broaden sector experience, delivering considerable growth in the process.

Today, I'm having a GAS with Grant Hunter, the global ECD at Iris Worldwide.
Grant is a remarkably down-to-earth and humble individual, considering the scope of his responsibility to his agency. He manages creative teams in the UK, the USA, Europe, Asia and South America.
Iris made waves last year, with a few pieces of work led by brand-purpose, including work for Starbucks, The Purpose Disruptors and the NHS Charities Together.
